Human Resources Wollongong Guide to Onboarding Remote Employees
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, employers and employees in Wollongong have started realising the benefits of working from home. Despite the many benefits, actually getting new employees set-up for remote work can be difficult.
The nature of remote work can make employee’s feel disconnected to the work environment. Getting ahead of this problem is important for all workplaces, with Kate Lister, president of Global Workplace Analytics predicting that around 70% of the workforce will be working remotely at least five days per month by 2025.
Investing time in making new employees more comfortable when working remotely will be incredibly beneficial for your business and here are a few tips on how to kickstart the process:
1. Help your employee to set up their workspaces
Remote workers should feel comfortable working from home. When an employee walks into an office, their desk is set up to begin work. You must try and recreate this experience. This means that all the required hardware and software should be sent to the employee prior to their first day.
2. Introduce new employees to the team
For a workplace to be effective, it must cultivate a strong team environment. This means that all employees should be comfortable communicating openly to each other in order to complete their work.
Remote workers can struggle getting to know the team and you should attempt to make the process of integrating them into the team environment as easy as possible. Your remote employees should be introduced to your team as soon as possible.
3. Gather employee feedback
Employee feedback is crucial for designing and implementing great HR programs. Asking your new employee how it’s going can help you learn what you have done well and what you can improve on.
4. Use an onboarding checklist
A checklist is an excellent HR tool which will quicken the onboarding procedure and make sure you don’t forget any details in the procedure. Forgetting small details is easy for any busy manager, but can lead to big problems down the track.
